if the goal is to win the cup, or at least get past the first round then doan and ott are exactly the type of players that need to be added to this team |

"Don't let his age fool you. He's 35 right now, and is showing one iota of slowing down.
Think you meant to say 'is not' showing one iota of slowing down.
Either that, or this article is really confusing. |

I don't think Doan is leaving Phoenix, regardless ownership situation. Even if he were, I'm not sure he'd want to play so far from the city, where he has established roots, and from what I understand, will be living there after he retires. Perhaps Pegula can do another sell job, but I doubt it. |

Homie, if Buffalo somehow got both Ott and Doan, and they played on the same line with anyone, even the kid, I think you might pass out in disbelief. |

I'll never get tired of media people who talk about what a great guy Shane Doan is. Yeah, he's a good player and a leader, but when people talk about what a clean and honest player he is, that's when I get a little annoyed. Anyone who says that has either never watched a Coyotes' game (why would they? It's Phoenix) or just isn't paying attention. He's a dirty player. When he hits, he goes for the head. What is it with certain players? It's like they get a "C" and suddenly they're perfect. The same thing happened with Mike Richards in Philly and he's a dirty player to. |

Players like Doan and Richards have an edge to their game. There's a very fine line and sometimes that line gets crossed. Doesn't mean I wouldn't love to have them on my team. |

I remember in 2009, Phoenix came here for a game, and Buffalo won it something like 4 or 5 - 1. Tim Connolly had 2 goals with about 2 minutes left, and went to the powerplay. Doan complained to the media about the Sabres putting their top powerplay unit out there with the game out of reach. I like him, and would take him on my team any day of the week, but he's not the perfect player everyone says he is. |

Once you get there, yes. The problem is that I'm not sure you do get there with the top 6 the way it is if the only players acquired were those 2. Doan is a top 6 player, but he is getting up there in age. |

But still, people act like they NEVER cross that line, which is not true. And Doan only has this reputation because he plays in Phoenix. Nobody watches the Coyotes so nobody ever notices him. |

I've actually watched a lot of Phoenix games. There's no need to say nobody watches them. Maybe you're too lazy to do so, but there are plenty of other people that do. |

There is some merit to that argument though. If he were in New York, Philly, Toronto or even Vancouver or Edmonton, we'd probably know a lot more about him than we'd possibly care to know. That goes for just about every player in a "non-traditional" market.
That being said, almost everyone crosses the line at one point or another. Make no mistake, he's a guy you want on your team, and is rightfully known as a classy player. A headshot here and there, as much emphasis as is put on them, doesn't change that. Sometimes you get lost in the heat of the battle. Perhaps the only exception is Nicklas Lidstrom, where many believe there was an unwritten "You don't touch me and I don't touch you" sort of code. |
